Snowshoeing

A few weeks back we had some nice sunny weather during
a cold snap. Lows around 10 degrees with highs in the upper
teens. Jen and I skiffed over to "town" as we call the community
of Baranof. This winter, our friend John is the only one living there.
Baranof has about a dozen cabins, an incredible waterfall, a nice
state dock, and a public bath house where water from the hot-
springs is piped down to the edge of the bay. Anyway, we
talked to John on the radio one morning and decided to go
snowshoeing. No matter what Jen says, I still think
snowshoeing is a strange word....and how do you spell it?

We often snowshoe up to Sadie Lake, a small lake that feeds
the stream where we get our water and hydro power at the
lodge. This day, the snow was pretty soft, so we decided to
just snowshoe up to Baranof Lake (a shorter hike).

Jen even gave up her camera for a few shots.

There is an overview we hiked up to. This isn't the best
photo, but from here you get great views of Baranof Lake,
Warm Springs Bay, Chatham Strait, and Admiralty Island.

John and I headed back down the hill.

Feral greeted us when we got back to the lodge and
escorted us back to the front door, conveniently
pointing out her food bowl and treat dish, which
happened to be empty.....
