Snow at Last!

Warm Springs Bay is known as a local snow hole with much more snow than most of the surrounding areas.  We didn't actually think we wouldn't get any snow this year, but we checked the weather logs and verified that we had never gone so far into winter without snow here at the lodge.  But last Saturday night (November 29th), the snow finally started to come down!  It snowed on and off for about 36 hours and we ended up with ten inches of heavy, wet snow to clear.  That's not much by Baranof standards (our big snow year was 37 feet and I've heard reports of 50 foot snow winters in the old days).  But it's a start and it made Jennifer very happy!

Here's the lodge early in the snowfall.

Sunday afternoon the skies cleared and we had some beautiful light to show off the snow.  Notice I didn't say sunlight as the sun didn't come over the mountains.

Somehow the lights just seem to go with snow....

We had trouble with the satellite internet and TV until I figured out that snow covered branches had dropped down in front of the dishes.  Once I shook the snow off the tree, the branches went back to their normal heights and service was restored!  That only took a day to figure out....

The snowblower got it's first workout of the season and performed flawlessly!

The snow took its time shedding off the roof, so we had to clear several different times.

Feral supervised from inside.

 Ready to pounce!
Run Away!
